Synopsis

Amidst fierce debate about the need for a wall to divide U.S. from Mexico, migrants do cross the US/Mexico border each year, helped by their devoted fans on both sides of the border, and on all sides of the political spectrum. These migrants are birds, who journey thousands of miles each year, back and forth across the Americas with no interest in man-made laws and barriers. Their allies are the men, women, and children -- both professional and decidedly amateur -- who are united by their love and admiration for these winged travellers. From the embattled wildlife refuges of southern Texas to the narco-plagued territories of Tamaulipas to the remote tropical forests of Veracruz and beyond, birders observe, record, monitor, and fight for the rights and habitats of these species. Birders celebrates these unusual fans, while also showing us another way to think about the perilous journey for survival that is migration.
